MAYOR ROBERT & SUSAN PALMIERI ANNOUNCE THE ARC, ONEIDA-LEWIS AS 2019 MAYOR’S GALA RECIPIENT
Mayor Robert Palmieri and his wife, Susan, today announced The Arc, Oneida-Lewis as the recipient of the 2019 Mayor’s Gala, to be held on Saturday, April 27th from 6:00 to 11:00pm at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Utica.
The Arc will use proceeds from The Mayor’s Gala to relocate and expand its Chefs Express program from Kirkland to 241 Genesee Street in Utica which includes the creation of a Bakery/Art Gallery that will be open to the public. Additionally, this social enterprise will serve as a training site for people with developmental disabilities who may have a goal to be competitively employed in the community. Artwork produced by The Arc’s Fine Arc program will be on display and for sale.
Since December of 2008, The Chefs Express program has prepared lunches and desserts for Arc Oneida-Lewis meetings, productions, events, and conferences. People who attend the Arc’s Venture Day Habilitation program who have an interest in culinary arts, learn skills that help them prepare desserts and sandwiches as well as instruction on catering events.
The Fine Arc program focuses on fine arts and is designed for people who have special interests and talents that they wish to express through drawing, painting, sculpting, jewelry making, and more.
“On behalf of The Arc, Oneida-Lewis and The Friends of The Arc Foundation, I want to sincerely thank our great Mayor and his wife, Susan for selecting us as the beneficiary of this premier event,” said Karen Korotzer, Arc Oneida-Lewis Chief Executive Officer. “The Arc is celebrating 65 years of serving our incredible community, many of those as a fixture in beautiful downtown Utica, and as such, the recent revival of Genesee Street has been especially exciting for us to witness. With the help of the Mayor’s Gala, we can play a significant role in continuing that progress with the creation of this one of a kind storefront.”
Friends of The Arc Foundation Board President Adrienne Carbone added, “Opening Chefs Express to the community and showcasing the amazing talents of the people supported by The Arc allows us to spread the mission that persons with disabilities live as fully included members of their community. To say we are overcome with joy to help The Arc realize this dream is an understatement!”
Mayor Robert & Susan Palmieri stated, “We are very proud to support The Arc, Oneida-Lewis and this exciting initiative that will enhance the quality of life for individuals with disabilities. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the many local restaurants and businesses whose generous donations make the Gala a successful event each year.
